Paul's image of forgetting what lies behind and pressing forward toward the goal mirrors the song's central refrain almost word for word. The posture is the same, even if the anchor differs.

The song borrows the language of rebirth that Scripture roots in Christ. The song reaches toward the same feeling of old things passing away, without naming the source of that newness.
