This policy explains what information WWJLT (“we”) collects through the website and the iPhone app, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. We do not sell or share personal information, show ads, or track you across other sites. An account is not required to use WWJLT.
Information we collect
- Song requests. The title and artist of songs you weigh. Readings are saved to the public Library and are not linked to you.
- IP address. Used to apply the daily limit on new readings when no verified device id is available. For IPv6, only the network portion is stored.
- Device id. A random id the website or app creates on first use. It is not derived from your hardware, Apple ID or any personal information.
- Visit status. The website stores the date of your first visit in your browser and, once a day, reports “new” or “returning” to our server with no identifier attached.
- Account information (optional). If you sign in: your email address, the songs you save, and the songs you weigh while signed in. Accounts have no password and hold no payment details.
- Feedback and email. If you report a problem with a reading, we store the song, the category and your message. If you email us, we receive your address and message.
In the iPhone app
- Microphone. Used only while you identify a song. Apple’s ShazamKit creates an acoustic fingerprint on your device and matches it against Apple’s catalog, under Apple’s privacy policy. Audio is never uploaded to us or stored.
- History. Stored on your device only. We cannot see or recover it.
- Device check. The app sends a token issued by Apple, which our server asks Apple to validate. It confirms the device is genuine and does not identify you.
- WWJLT Plus. Purchased through Apple; we never receive your name, Apple ID or payment details. We store the transaction id, product, expiry date and your device id so the membership is recognized. The website takes no payments.
How we use information
- To produce readings and keep the Library available to everyone.
- To apply a fair daily limit on new readings and to slow abuse.
- To sign you in and keep your saved songs and history, if you have an account.
- To respond to feedback and email, and to fix errors.
- To keep daily totals, such as readings made and visits from search engines, as plain counts with no record of who.
We use your email address only to sign you in or reply to you, never for marketing.
We keep usage records for about three days, account data until you delete it, and backups for up to 30 days.
Service providers
- Anthropic generates readings. It receives the song’s catalog name and lyrics, with nothing about you.
- Cloudflare delivers the website, protects it from attacks, counts page views (Cloudflare Web Analytics, no cookies), sends sign-in emails, stores our encrypted backups and forwards email sent to us to a Google mailbox. It processes IP addresses and, for sign-in, your email address.
- Sentry receives error reports so we can fix problems.
- Apple and Wikimedia serve album artwork and artist images directly to your device and see your IP address when an image loads. Public music and Bible catalogs are queried by song name only.
- BibleGateway, Apple Music and Spotify are contacted only if you follow a link to them.
Cookies and local storage
Signing in sets one cookie that page scripts cannot read and that is never sent to other sites. Without an account, saved songs, your Bible translation choice, your device id and your first-visit date are kept in your browser’s local storage. Your translation choice never reaches our server.
Your choices
- Delete your account at any time from the account page. Your data is removed from our server immediately and from backups within 30 days.
- Clear this site’s data in your browser, or delete the app, to erase the device id and anything stored locally.
- Email us to ask about or request deletion of any information we hold.
Children
WWJLT is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page, and the date above, before any change to how we handle information takes effect.
